Trying to figure out my favorite hiking trail at Bryce Canyon National Park, in Utah, was not as easy as I thought it was going to be. This may be due to the fact that Bryce Canyon is one of my favorite National Parks in the entire United States, so I enjoyed all the trails. So fortunately, my favorite trail happens to be a combination of two, the Navajo and Queens Garden Trails. This combination of trails provides a grand tour of the main Bryce Canyon amphitheater, starting at Sunrise Point and ending at Sunset Point. There is virtually no elevation difference between these Points (Sunrise Pt elevation 8015ft, Sunset Pt elevation 8000ft) so your choice of trailhead will have no effect on the difficulty of the hike. However, you must be sure to wear very comfortable hiking boots because there is a 550 ft descent, followed by a similar climb out. Also the distance between Sunrise and Sunset Points is approximately 1 mile along a paved portion of the Rim Trail which runs (obviously) along the rim of the amphitheater, which affords some spectacular views of where youre going, or have already been.As beautiful as the scenery is along the Queens Garden/Navajo Trail(s), it will be even more spectacular if you start at the right trailhead at the right time. Without a doubt, the best time, and place, to start is sunrise at Sunrise Point. Be sure to arrive at least 20 minutes before sunrise (believe me there are going to be plenty of others arriving 15 minutes early to try to get a good view too) so you can get an unimpeded view as the first rays of the morning sun floods the amphitheater in brilliant yellow, pink and orange sunlight. In those first moments of daylight the naturally colorful strata of rocks will appear to shift hues right in front of your eyes.Once you

Although not as popular as some wine travel destinations, South Africa is actually on the cutting edge of active wine tourism. A visit to the Vineyard Hiking Trail in the Stellenbosch area of South Africa will allow you to experience the beautiful countryside, taste delicious wines, and stay active in the process.

South Africa boasts 13 wine regions, all located in the Western Cape centered on the city of Cape Town. While each has its charms, the Stellenbosch area is the most well-known and the location of the Vineyard Hiking Trail.

Stellenbosch is an interesting town boasting a university and a fun downtown with hotels, shops, and restaurants. It is surrounded by mountains, including the Helderberg, Stellenbosch, Jonkershoek Valley, and Simonsberg ranges.

Most visitors who travel to Stellenbosch and are interested in wine drive one of the well-promoted Stellenbosch American Express Wine Routes. These five driving routes have maps connecting the participating wineries, scheduled tasting hours, and a website dedicated to the concept.

However, it is not the Wine Routes that attract active wine travelers to South Africa. Much less well known, the Stellenbosch area also has a fantastic series of marked paths called the Vineyard Hiking Trail.

Without its own website and with little promotion, the Vineyard Hiking Trail is neither well known nor highly traveled. The trail is centered on the Sugarbird Manor, a fantastic small inn that until recently was owned by World Wildlife Fund ” South Africa. From the doors of the inn, it is possible to reach any of the three Vineyard Hiking Trail routes: the 3.3 kilometer Vintners’ Route, the 8.8 kilometer Devon Valley Route, and the 14.3 kilometer Mountain Route. The trails are signposted and a basic map is available, all for a small access fee. Vineyards along the routes are pleased to welcome visitors.

One of the aspects of the Vineyard Hiking Trail that makes it so cutting edge in wine tourism is hikers are allowed to walk on private property throughout. Unlike in Europe, where most trails through wine areas are on public roads, or in the United States where property and liability concerns make public vineyard walks a rarity, in South Africa the local grape growers have teamed together to make their lands accessible to tourists.

And make no mistake about it – walking through vineyards is more rewarding than driving from winery to winery. For one thing, it eliminates the drinking and driving problem. For another, it’s healthy. Best of all, it provides a much greater connection to the wine you drink. After you work up a sweat passing row after row of well-tended grapes, the wine you drink tastes that much better.

For many people a hiking trail is the most exciting way to spend a lazy afternoon with family and friends. Some people are quite content to spend an entire day walking along these marked pathways exploring nature and learning more about the world around them.

There are a variety of ways that outdoor lovers can discover a number of fun walks that are well suited to people of any age. An online search for these paths and adventures is one of the places to start. Most popular outdoor courses are listed with information about how challenging they are. It is advisable to discover how long the trails are before committing to this type of activity.

Hiking adventures are available in every country and in the US it is quite easy to locate these types of trails in every state from Alaska to Hawaii. This type of outdoor experience can be extremely long and arduous and many of the routes require at least one overnight campout experience for people who want to complete the trail from start to finish.

To walk along the entirety of the Appalachian Trail for instance can take someone several months. Many dedicated outdoor adventurers will take to the paths of the Appalachian Mountains and spend at least several days or weeks exploring the wilderness in order to fully savor the total adventure.

Always find out detailed information about the outdoor route that is being planned ahead of time. Outdoor enthusiasts are aware that they can check out online guides to discover if there are any hygiene facilities available along the way. It is also possible to read about any special challenges of the course and to review the level of difficulty rating that has been assigned. Guides will share what types of animals and plants may be seen and campsites for overnight stays are also listed.

A beginning hiker or a person who just wants to enjoy a more casual hiking experience would probably be better suited for a day hike that might last for 1-6 hours. In Wisconsin it is possible to set out along the paths of Sunrise Ferry Hiking Trail. This Polk County attraction winds its way around and through some of the most beautiful countryside in the Dairy State. There are other diversions there that can be enjoyed before, during or after the hike. People often choose to visit the side paths and byways that take them to the Saint Croix National Scenic River or they may enjoy a stop at the Kettle River for a quick dip in the water.

Yosemite is known for an abundance of wonderful trails and this is a very popular destination for hikers, campers and others who love spending time in the great outdoors. An experienced hiker can tackle most courses but an inexperienced outdoor enthusiast should begin with a shorter trek so they can gain experience easily and safely. Hiking is fun but there is always the need to prepare for the adventure properly.

Take a cell phone, flashlight, map, water, sunscreen and a snack with in a backpack when setting out on any trip that will last several hours or longer. Many people that are planning this kind of outdoor exploration will also take some type of handheld GPS device. These can provide valuable assistance in case of emergencies. A small first aid kit is advisable just in case of a stumble or fall that produces a scraped knee or elbow. Grab some sunglasses, a whistle, a fully equipped backpack and get ready to head off to a great outdoor adventure.

The Springer Mountain is one of the loop hike trails that are rocky with less forest surrounding it due to the nature of its soil and the difficulty for this trail is rated moderate. This trail is on the Appalachian Trail which traces from the FS 42 to the Springer Mountain which takes a total of 4.5 miles to complete. The peak of the Springer Mountain is the southern terminus of the AT which is part of the 2,172 miles distance from North Georgia to Northern Maine’s highest mountain, Mount Katahdin.

The trail starts at the Forest Service Road 42 where a parking area is located. This parking lot has a fee which also allows access for both Springer and Three Forks trails. Proceed to the entrance of Springer Mountain trails where there is a marker and as you move along the treadway, the path is noticeably blazed with rectangular white trail signs.

At this point the trail is expected to makes a gradual ascent towards the top of the Springer Mountain wherein the highest point of elevation there reaches 3,782 feet.

The pathway is wide and fortunately the climb is not too steep although the pathway is made of gravel with some rocky steps which you may have to take extra precaution. There are some sets of stone steps along the pathway which makes it easier to navigate. At the stones steps developed by the Georgia Appalachian Trail Club, move around a conspicuous dead tree wherein this section makes a vantage point for the incredible view of the watershed at Cartecay River system. Two bronze plaques set on stones signify the start of the Appalachian Trail. The first bronze marker was set on a stone in 1958 which marks the southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail while the other marker was set on a boulder in 1993 as a memorial.

At 0.7 of a mile, the path approaches the Benton MacKaye Trail (BMT) on the left side wherein its trail is marked by white diamonds. Move past this and proceed south on the Appalachian Trail as it makes an easy climb to reach the top of Springer Mountain. Move along passing some blue blazes where the path approaches a campground and a shelter at the Springer Mountain.

However if you want to move further along the trail without an overnight camping adventure, take another 0.2 of a mile at this point until you reach the southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail at the Springer Mountain’s peak. From here you may head back following the white rectangular trail blazes on the BMT as it descends to Big Stamp Gap and finally rejoining the Forest Road 42 as it heads west crossing small streams. Continue straight ahead as it joins the AT swerving left to FS 42’s parking area.

When you head into the wild it is always a good idea to think safety first. A reliable radio can save your life in case of emergency. We have a variety of UHF, VHF and CB radios for sale including the very convenient small portable Handheld CB Radio models.

Nothing could be more exciting than working up a sweat than in the beautiful outdoors. With pure oxygen, sights of natural resources, oceans or the mountains, it really doesn’t get any better. One of the most versatile workouts is hiking. Whether an expert backpacker that has traveled the globe for the best trails, or purely a novice hiker who is just looking for some exercise or to clear their head, most hiking trails have many options to accommodate every skill level. From miles of flat land to hard, uphill treks, here are the best hiking trails in the U.S.

Ewoldsen Trail in Big Sur, CA – For the most beautiful hiking with many scenic arrangements, the Ewoldsen Trail offers redwood forests, canyon and ocean views, elevation gain and lush greenery all year long. The famous McWay Falls is merely across the street from the starting point of the trail and makes for a beautiful rest stop to the hike. Visitors can look forward to steep switchback climbs, crossing bridges, redwood groves and maybe even a sighting of a California condor.

Breakneck Ridge Trail in the Hudson Highlands State Park, NY – This trail makes a rocky ascent from the river up to a rugged ridge where hikers have a continuous view of beautiful vistas. Must-see attractions include sights of the Catskill Mountains, Hudson River, Spring and Summer wildflowers and stony ridges. The trail is 9.6 total miles and is a demanding climb.

Glacier Gorge in the Rocky Mountain National Park, CO - Locals believe the area to be one of the most gorgeous spots in the park with stunning scenery, wildflowers, cascading waterfalls and lakes.

Beach Trail at the Torrey Pines State Reserve, CA - The state park is beloved among locals for its trails that look over the cliffs of Torrey Pines and the extensive wildlife that inhabit the reserve. Hikers are in awe of the ocean views, along with sights of paragliders flying in the close distance. With all that ocean air, don’t forget to bring your Camelbak backpack for water.

Appalachian Trail: The Pinnacle in Hamburg, PA - Hikers will get impressive views of the Blue Rocks, Lehigh Valley, Hawk Mountain and some of the best vistas of Pennsylvania. Be aware of rocky paths and forested mountain trails.

Zion National Park in Utah was the very first National Park I ever visited. As much as I loved the outdoors, it was not until the first nightfall that I was absolutely captivated by the immense beauty of nature. Staring up into the night sky, a seemingly endless stream of stars was broken only by the silent silhouette of The Sentinal. At that moment, I knew I wanted to hike as many trails as I could, and experience as much of the natural beauty as possible. Today, when I think of Zion National Park, I remember not only that incredible, silent stream of stars, but also my two favorite hiking trails The Canyon Overlook and the Angels Landing.Part of the charm of the Canyon Overlook trail is actually driving to the trailhead. The 1.1 mile Mount Carmel Tunnel was blasted through the limestone of Mt Carmel in the 1920

Mountain hiking is an outdoor activity that makes tourists take a trip back and be intimate with nature. Whether in Asia, the Alps, or the Rocky Mountains, it offers the same chills and thrills for outdoor travelers.

Asia

The best mountain hiking spots in Asia takes you to the different hill tribes where you can meet the indigenous people. A trip to Thailand’s Erawan National Park will allow you to view the most beautiful waterfall in Thailand. Outdoor travelers can find several tribal villages in Erawan which immerses the travelers to the different cultures in Asia.

The BA BE Village is a mountain hiking spot in Asia found in the region bordering Vietnam and China. Along with the mountain hiking trip, you can also take a shot cruise through the BA BE Lake. This trip will also take you to the pristine forests as you see different herbal medicines that the natives use. At the end of the trail, you will encounter different hill tribes to give you a rewarding experience. The best feature of this spot is that you can also experience bicycle rides which is a local tradition.

Europe

The spots in Europe are known for unspoiled nature, lots of flowers, and following the trails for a mountain hike to the Alps.

The Sumava Mountains in Czech Republic is a pristine spot that features rolling hills and pure rivers. This trail was once a no man’s land for the past 40 years. As a national park, the hiking trail will take you nowhere near a human settlement. However, the horses here will delight you.

The smallest alpine mountain in the world can be found in Poland. The alpine mountain hike will lead you to easy walks and challenging trails. Its small size allows you to view the different medieval castles giving this trail a historic touch. Aside from castles, it also has olden churches, and different palaces to remind tourists of an almost serene past.

Further west to Slovenia, you will encounter different trails for different mountain hikers. The mountain peaks found at the Julic Alps has easy hiking trails where you can find some swimming spots. This combines a challenging yet relaxing experience for outdoor travelers looking to see the top of Eastern Europe.

America

The most popular trail in America is of course their greatest mountain range. The Rocky Mountains is mapped out for different trails for various levels of mountain hikers and outdoor travelers.

Are you yearning to see the great outdoors in all of it’s basic, untouched beauty? If you are sick and tired of the same old mundane activities, then you should consider visiting the state of Colorado. For those in the know it’s known worldwide for its endless scenic beauty and peacefulness.

Depending or your knowledge and level of stamina, you can go for Colorado horse camping and hiking trails. To minimize the pain and help you choose the best camping and hiking trails for you, here are some of the most popular Colorado horse camping and hiking trails.

THE AMERICAN DISCOVERY TRAIL American discovery trail, one of the most diverse, expanded and explored camping and hiking trails is located in the eastern plains of Colorado. It is one of the most peaceful and the oldest trails in the history of this area. Many of the explorers, philosophers and great pioneers of the past have used this trail to reach new lands. Today this Colorado hiking trail proves to be a real testament to nature and is the best place to relax and be peaceful. This place being one of the best choices that brings one close to the nature.

Along with great pleasure, this place ensures to provide the people with great challenges. One would really have to work hard to reach this trail as it passes through 15 mountains that are over 9,000 feet, so you can imagine the amount of comfort and sense of accomplishment one would get after reaching it!

THE ARAPAHO AND ROOSEVELT NATIONAL FORESTS Of course you can go anywhere, but the place not to be missed is the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests for horse camping and hiking trails. Situated in north central Colorado, this forest and grassland covers 1.5 million acres of land. It starts from the north of the Wyoming border that is to the south; and goes up to Interstate 70 towards Mount Evans. This forest covers up the Continental Divide going to the William Fork area, from the west side. This forest is so expanded and has a lot of wild animals to be seen. So if you decide to visit this place, then in spite with all the luxuries provided, you will be extremely happy to see the wild species roaming around.

Since the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests is like a big jungle, once you enter it, you are more likely to get confused and lost, most of the times, and therefore carrying a GPS along would prove to be a great idea. You need to be prepared for it, as it might be a wonderful experience but not fun at all if you wind up lost.

THE BLACK CANYON OF THE GUNNISONThe Black Canyon of The Gunnison is one of the most challenging Colorado horse camping and hiking trails with lots of constructive activities. This place is so steep that it can also prove to be very challenging for even the most seasoned professional hikers. However, since there are plenty of trails to choose from you don’t have to choose a difficult trail since there are plenty of easy ones to go with.

In spite of the relatively warm weather in Phoenix during many months, outdoor activities are very popular among the predominately health conscious population of the area. Among the myriad of outdoor recreation opportunities, one of the favorites is taking advantage is the multitude of hiking trails within the Phoenix city limits. One word of advice: it is Phoenix and it can be hot. Be prepared by taking plenty of water, sunscreen, a good hat and quality foot-wear suitable for hiking.

One of the Phoenix area’s most prominent landmarks is Camelback Mountain, visable from many, many miles away. The top of the mountain lies at an elevation of 2,704 feet with an increase of elevation from bottom to top of 1,200 feet. There are four major trails to suit the fancy of the beginning hiker all the way to the experienced trekker. Bobby’s Rock Trail runs the full length of the mountain for 2.5 miles and is rated “easy”. Ramada Loop Trail is also an easy trail that loops around the upper ramada at Echo Canyon. By far, the most popular and heavily traveled trail is the Summit Trail that sometimes resembles rush hour in an Eastern city subway station. It is ranked as “difficult” and can be a challenging and strenuous effort and should only be attempted by the experienced hiker. As the name implies, it rises 1,274 feet in 1.2 miles to the summit of the mountain. The view from the top is spectacular and well worth the attempt. The fourth trail provided is the Cholla Trail, which is also rated “difficult”.

A close neighbor to Camelback Mountain, also located in North Phoenix, is Piestewa Peak, formerly known as Squaw Peak. The top of the peak is at an elevation of 2,608 feet. The summit rises 1,190 feet. The most popular trail is the Summit Trail rated “moderate to difficult” and 1.2 miles in length.. Two of the longer trails are the Perl Charles Memorial Trail, 4.8 miles long and the Squaw Peak Circumference Trail running 3.74 miles. Both trails are rated “moderate to difficult”.

Lying on the other side of the city to the south, is the massive South Mountain Park, the largest city park in the United States. The park boasts twelve different trails ranging from “easy” to “difficult” appealing to all levels of hikers and recreational enthusiasts. Two of the most popular trails are the National Trail and the Mormon Trail. The National Trail runs the full length of the South Mountain Range from east to west covering 14.3 miles. It is ranked “moderate to difficult”. There are several entry points along the length of the trail which allow for shorter hiking ventures. Mormon Trail basically loops along the many ridges of the Northeast part of the mountain. It runs 1.1 miles and the elevation change is roughly 1,000 feet.

Another location of outstanding hiking trails offering panoramic views is North Mountain Park. As with the areas mentioned above, it is located inside the Phoenix city limits. The major skyline feature of the park is Shaw Butte, topping out at 2,149 feet. The Shaw Butte Trail is 4 miles long and is rated “moderate to difficult”. In total, North Mountain Park has five trails ranging from 1.2 miles to 10.7 miles in length and providing venues that are “easy to difficult”.

One of the many surpises awaiting the newcomer to Phoenix, is that such a modern city, a true metropolis, can offer near-wilderness hiking experiences right within its city limits.

The best hiking spot in the world is a debatable topic. For some it’s Base Camp at Mount Everest. The endless sea of snow and isolated beauty makes the trip for them. For others it’s the trail at their local valley, three blocks away from home. Still others might enjoy the radical difficulty and freedom of a week-long trek in Yosemite National Park. It really all depends on what you want: scenery, something social, isolation, or a challenge. Taking all these into account, we have created a Top 5 list of the best hiking trails around the world.

5. Zion Narrows, Utah, United States

The Utah Desert is home to some of the wildest scenery available to hikers. The sandstone structures are a result of thousands of years’ worth of erosion. What remains for hikers to explore is a landscape like Mars, with peaks that reach thousands of feet into the open sky.

4. Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania

The tallest peak in Africa is a gentle summit for inexperienced hikers, with natural beauty and gorgeous contrasts in the landscape. The hike can be done in less than a week and offers a number of trails that lead you up to the highest view point in Africa. From the parched landscape of Sub-Saharan Africa to snowy hillsides, hiking Kilimanjaro is the equivalent of seven hikes in one.

3. Mount Huashan Trail, China

Definitely not for the faint hearted or hikers without a few serious excursions under their belts, the Huashan Trail offers some of the most gravity defying trails above open rock faces. Make no mistake; this trail is one of the most dangerous in the world. But the rewards for completing it are worth it. The monastery at the top of the mountain offers spectacular views.

2. Tour de Mont Blanc, France

The gem of the French Alps, Mont Blanc, offers hikers a breathtaking view from the highest peak in Europe – 15,000 feet. The snow capped montains and hills are home to a number of very forgiving trails, making this great feat accomplishable to most hikers. Along the way you will bypass glaciers, lakes and green valleys that look enchanted. Those just wanting the view without the hard work can take a cable car. With a little effort and a few days dedication, however, the 170km hike will reward you with absolute beauty every step of the way.

1. Inca Trail, Peru

There is a reason that everybody says they want to do the Inca Trail – it is breath taking. The ancient ruins that are etched into the lush Peruvian hillsides are a like a time machine into a historic bygone era. Because of the trail’s popularity, it is safe and regulated, making it suitable to hikers of all levels. There are a number of trails that lead up to Machu Picchu, giving more hard core hikers a chance to stretch themselves a bit a long the way. But for the most part, this famous landmark hike is all about the scenery and atmosphere.
