It is not unusual for camping gear prices to go up during the summer months. During the summer, an increase of demand for camping tents and camping accessories usually hit the market since summer is the peak season of camping. Prices are likely to fluctuate during such time of the year. Although there might be several camping season sale across shops, you still get to save more and choose from a wider selection if you purchase it some other time.

So, when is this best “other time” to buy camping equipment?

Any time is actually a good time. But if you are looking to save money, it is best to purchase after the camping season is over. During this time, many camping stores drop their prices in medium to high percentages plus you get to choose from a wide variety of discount camping gear. You can purchase and save them for next year’s camping trip or use it whenever you want to go outdoors.

While you and everybody else are not doing camping at that specific month, it is a great time to grab supplies and put them up for the next camping season. It’s a perfect time to purchase expensively tagged camping supplies that you normally wouldn’t purchase because the prices are too high. After camping season, these expensively tagged items are likely to get discounted.

Shopping anytime online is another good option. There are a lot of low priced camping must-brings online. Many are second hand and some are sold but were never used or only used once. Like any other retail store, these online camping shops have discount offers and seasonal sales too. Auction sites can also help you save. To make sure that you are purchasing online securely, it helps to do some researching for trusted online shops and for buyer reviews.

Heavy duty hiking can be a risky business so safety should be the order of the day. When it comes to purchasing the best Timberland boots there are many issues to consider. Just because there are boots on sale they are not necessarily the best ones to buy, don’t scrimp on cost at the expense of safety and comfort. We all have different sized feet, Some brands will probably fit you better than others, and it usually takes a certain amount of trying on to decide which Timberland boots are ideal for your foot. Depending on the type of hiking you are doing, in most cases heavy Timberland boots are exactly what you need for extended day hiking, backpacking and traditional summer alpine climbing, especially if you intend to do all three without splurging on three separate pairs of Timberland boots for each activity.

Support as well as comfort is a key factor, but durability and versatility are also important for big backpacking trips, or covering long distances on unfamiliar rough trails.

For example, Timberland boots are great boots to have if you like to spend time on exploring the outdoors. But even if you are not much of a walker, you can still make good use of Timberland boots.

You will find that Timberland boots are around five to seven inches high, they are usually well padded and offer minimal flexibility at the ankles. Most have a rugged lug sole (like a tire tread) that will provide good traction on a variety of surfaces. It is important that the sole is flexible enough to allow for natural walking motion, but it needs to be rigid enough to support your foot. Also make sure the sole is well connected to the upper and not likely to separate allowing moisture to enter in wet conditions.

You need to bear in mind that Timberland boots are generally made from strong and stiff materials, so they will not adjust to fit your feet like other shoes made of canvas or typical shoe leather for example. Having said this you will want to purchase your boots well in advance to give yourself plenty of time to break them in to avoid blisters and foot pain on your first trip.

cheap Timberland boots are made to be water resistant. Some are also better for use in very hot weather or in cold conditions. If your boots are not water proof it would be a good idea to waterproof them before you even break them in. You will find most places that sell these boots will have a waterproofing spray that you can purchase. If cared for correctly, these waterproof barriers can outlast the boots themselves.

Whether you are looking for men’s Timberland boots, women’s Timberland boots or kids Timberland boots, you want the best Timberland boots available. Whether it is your feet or your families feet, don’t let price make the final say. When you are out on a 10k walk, the feet are aching, the blisters are throbbing and all you can think of is when is it all going to be over, don’t regret choosing price over quality and comfort. Do your research; find a supplier who knows their product, one that can correctly fit the appropriate boots to your feet. You want your Timberland boots to be comfortable all the time, with good cushioning, full support at the arch, heel and ankle, as well as having excellent traction in the sole. Get it right and your hiking trip will be one to enjoy.

Safe, clean drinking water is a priority when heading off on any hiking or camping trip. Water is a common source of illness as it is an environment favored by by bacteria and parasites. To stay well, the hiker has the choice of carrying their water in or making water found along the way safe. As each liter of water weights one kilogram, carrying a suitable amount is often not an option. This is where water microfiltration is very useful.

A water microfilter works like any other filter. It prevents the passage of certain materials while allowing the passing of others. The difference with microfilters is the size of the pores. Bacteria, protozoa and parasites are small. Very small. To prevent all of these pathogens from getting through the holes in the device, the pores, need to be only slightly large than water molecules.

The type of microfilters used for hiking have pores between 0.3 and 0.2 microns.

A micron is one millionth of a meter so these are small holes indeed. Most devices have multiple stages the water passes through before the process is complete.

Modern filters can be ceramic or made of glass fiber. Ceramic ones often have smaller pores and can filter very fine particles. Glass fiber, although having larger pores, has a very large surface area that has a high capacity to absorb sediment and pathogens.

The other common component is activated carbon. This removes tastes and odors as well as chlorine and pesticides. It ensures the water you drink tastes as it should.

When planning a camping trip, it’s important that you get the proper equipment to take with you. High quality hiking and camping gear will help you get the most out of your trip. If you want to enjoy your time outdoors to the fullest, you will need a few essential things.

The most obvious camp equipment you will need is a portable tent. Get one that is spacious and easy to set up. Since this will be your home for the duration of the trip, you will need to choose a tent that you feel comfortable in. If you are planning on going on a longer trip, you might want a bigger tent, so you won’t start to feel claustrophobic after the first couple of days. Some people also choose bigger tents because they bring additional hiking and camping gear that they want to fit inside their tent. If you are not bringing much or going on a short trip, you can get a smaller tent. Choose one that will be easy to set up. Avoid complicated instructions that can leave you frustrated. Setting up your tent should be easy and not time-consuming.

Bringing a portable stove can make your life a lot easier in the wilderness. Unless you want to cook every meal on a bonfire or eat canned food, you should think about getting a stove. They are small and easy to carry. Camp stoves are designed to work in unusual or difficult conditions. They are very safe and easy to use.

Your hiking and camping gear will need to include sleeping bags. You might be sleeping outdoors, but you don’t want to sleep on the ground. Choose comfortable and soft sleeping gear. You will need a lot of rest and energy throughout your trip. Nighttime is when you can regain some energy after moving around all day. Some places get very cold at night, so be sure that your sleeping bag will be able to keep you warm in cold temperatures. You should be insulated from the cold air at night, so you can hold on to your body heat.

You will also need a sturdy backpack for your camp equipment. Choose one that has a lot of space for everything you will need to bring. Think about all the items you will be carrying ahead of time. Buy a bag that can accommodate all of them and that is easy to carry.

Buy all your camp equipment before your trip. Think about various scenarios that you might encounter in the wild. Getting the proper hiking and camping gear is essential to planning an enjoyable trip. While the aim is to spend time outdoors and bond with nature, you should still be comfortable and have all the necessities you need.

Fall is the perfect time for camping or hiking. Over 1.5 million people participate in these types of outdoor sports.

Before you start on your outdoor excursion though, be sure you’re prepared. Below is a list of outdoor health and safety risks you should watch out for. You can have a safe hiking and camping experience as long as you follow through with all of your preparations.

Carbon Monoxide Poisoning: Carbon monoxide is dangerous because you can’t see it or smell it. Because of these factors you could get sick or die before you knew it was there. To protect yourself, place stoves, heaters, lanterns and any other such items outside tents. If you anticipate cold weather, dress accordingly.

Wildlife: Stay safe by keeping your distance from all animals and wildlife you meet on the trail. Do not feed or attract any wildlife or leave your garbage and waste scattered around your camp.

Leave them alone at all times.

Rules for campfire safety: Do not build your campfire near or under trees. Put rocks around the fire pit to contain any hot embers. Make sure you have water handy just in case. Keep extra wood and kindling away from the fire. Most importantly, never leave a fire unattended, period.

Sun Exposure (Sunburn): Being outside means exposure to the sun and its harsh rays. Be sure to use a sunscreen of at least 15 SPF on all days, including cloudy and overcast, as you can still get burned.

Ticks, Mosquitoes, Horseflies, etc: Just as sure as you are in the woods, you will be exposed to critters that will want to take a bite. The best defense is to use an insect repellent that contains DEET.

Upon preparation for my own trips I have found that the CDC recommends DEET, picaridin, IR3535 or eucalyptus against mosquitoes, and repellents with 20% DEET for ticks.

Follow package directions for use. You should also wear long sleeves and pants whenever possible, weather permitting. Wear light-colored clothing, as dark colors seem to attract ticks and mosquitoes.

Blisters, Scratches, Scrapes, etc.: Blisters, scratches and scraped knees are common afflictions found on a hiking trail. Be sure to bring along bandages and cleaning cloths in your first aid kit. Keep handy inside your backpack.

Water: The best thing to do is to bring your own drinking water from a source you trust. If you run out of water or are unsure of its safety you should bring the water to a rolling boil for at least 1 minute, 3 minutes for higher altitudes. Never drink questionable water, as the consequences could be dire.

Always remember to let someone know your itinerary and approximately how long it should take you to complete your hiking or camping trip. Know your physical limits and try to avoid heat exhaustion. Stay on the trails and never go anywhere alone.

Should a situation arise while on the trail or back at your campsite, use caution and common sense when making any decision. If you follow basic safety tips and park rules you should be assured of a fun and safe outdoor experience.

Travel light. This is the rule that every traveler should live by, but it is even more crucial when going on a long distance hiking trip.

Unlike any other form of traveling, you cannot just leave your baggage and move on up the trail if you feel like it. Whatever you bring stays on your back all throughout the trail. For this reason, each and every item you place inside your backpack should be selected for their utility and not for reasons of sentiment and the like.

To avoid over-packing, make sure to use a backpack big enough to accommodate only the hiking essentials you will need on the trail. If your backpack is too big, the tendency is to stuff it to the brim with stuffs you wont be using.

The size of your backpack will be determined by the number of days it

Hiking is a fun and enjoyable sport. Being outdoors gives you a sense of freedom from your everyday life. Anything that helps you de-stress and rejuvenate is to be applauded. Be aware, though, that you cannot go straight from the home or office environment and hit the trail without any preparations.

The best 17 super hot hiking tipsare here for you in no particular order:

1. Get in shape. Every hiker’s pace will vary but the average estimated pace is 1.5 miles per hour. Start walking outdoors to get in shape so you won’t injure yourself on the hike. Muscle strains and cramps are the results of untrained bodies and you don’t want it to be you.

2. Proper Clothing & Footwear. Always wear comfortable clothes that don’t bind or chafe. Wear a hat; it protects you from the sun and from ticks. Have a lightweight jacket with you for wind and rain protection.

Good hiking boots are essential. Look for boots with a high ankle and solid soles to prevent slipping on uneven terrain.

3. Know the expected weather conditions and climate of the trail. Dress in layers. Bring along extra clothes, a raincoat, water, bug repellent, sunglasses, sunscreen of at least 15 SPF, and poison ivy block.

4. Drink water only from a safe water source.

5. Provide close supervision of children in your care.

6. Make sure to give your itinerary to family and/or friends. Be sure you include any telephone numbers and any other important trail information.

7. Watch the trail for any hazards. Watch for any natural hazards on the trail. Always consider what is before you before moving forward.

8. Learn CPR / Carry a first aid kit in your backpack.

Also bring along a whistle, compass, waterproof matches and a warm blanket.

9. Bring your camera along to capture those unforgettable moments.

10. Plan breaks according to the length of the trip.

11. Put the slowest hiker in front. Set the pace to that person.

12. Do not wander off the trail.

13. Don’t bring anything of value on the trip. Leave them at home.

14. Be smart with your food supply. Keep hot foods hot and cold foods cold. Pack dried, dehydrated and non-perishables for longer hiking trips.

15. Be able to make fire. Follow proper instructions for fire in a campsite.

16. Always take home what you brought. Do Not Litter!

17. MOST OF ALL: HAVE FUN!

If you are going to take your dog camping or hiking with you then it is better to do some simple checks before you embark on your outing. There are many dog owners who will spend hours considering what type of new outfit to purchase for their dog when looking at dog clothes, and the same amount of time and consideration has to be applied before going camping with your animal.

The first step to take is to make sure your dog has all his/her vaccinations up to date, and it can also be a good idea to take along a copy or proof of its rabies vaccination. The next step is to check that you have taken a flea or tick precaution; this can either be with the animal wearing a flea collar or using the drops on the coat that can be acquired from the veterinarian.

If you have not already, then it is a good idea to have an ID tag on the dog, this could have for instance the name of the camping area where you are based or park.

On the other side of the tag you could also put both your phone details, you’re home and mobile. All dogs should have a microchip with all the details but a tag on the dog is also beneficial to the owner in case of any mishaps.

There are many people who have taken their dog hiking or camping from when it was a tiny puppy and now enjoys. However for those of you who are going to take your dog for the first time then some light exercise needs to be done, after all you would not run a marathon without proper training and the same is necessary for your dog.

If your dog is obedient and does not run around barking and chasing people constantly then it should be alright to take them camping. If though you have a dog that is rather mischievous then a camping outing is not a good idea.

It is always best to contact any campsites and parks before making the trip to make sure that a dog is allowed.

When packing for the trip as well as a first aid kit for yourself you will also need one for your dog, and if the weather is going to be hot put in a sun block for your dog, dogs can get sunburn just like humans. It is wise to take an extra lead in case the normal one gets damaged or wet, but take a normal one not the retractable lead as they can be quite dangerous when climbing steep hills. Then there is the usual like dog bowl, water, toy and a blanket in case the nights turn colder.

One of the most important things to remember is to take plenty of water, both you and your dog will drink more than usual. Whether you are going hiking or camping always keep a check every now and then on your dogs paws. As much as they love you they cannot turn around and tell you if they have a thistle or raw paw pad or small stone on their pad. If you venture through any long grass the same applies to the nose, eye and ears for any small blades of grass and also for any sign of ticks. As long as thought and proper preparation has been thought about there is know reason why you and your dog cannot have an enjoyable time.
