At the Grand Targhee the winter season ends in great Hilary each year with the annual cardboard box derby race as everyone careens made down the slope on cardboard boxes. The Grand Targhee offers entertainment across the spectrum that appeals to everyone and the summer season brings another set of outdoor entertainment activities as well as the well-known music festivals.

The closing weekend festivities will be launched on 10th April with the 10th annual Cardboard Box Derby under Dreamcatcher Lift. Everything possible will be racing down the slope from UFOs, cars, dragons and everything else people can think up. All of this made from paper, cardboard, string, glue and tape. The Derby has become a traditional event that is great fun for all. Shannon Hamby told OnTheSnow.com that spectators are welcome to walk up the slope if they wish to watch the event.

Although April 11 is the date the resort wraps up their winter season, people can score a significant discount on lift tickets that are valid until the end of the season. They need to buy the Daylight Savings Pass to get be in line for the discounts. The price range for this pass is $99 for seniors and juniors and $169 for young adults. The Sunday half-day tickets are reduced through to closing day at $29.

The Grand Targhee welcomes summer in the Tetons by opening the season on June 25 through to 12 September for music, hiking and mountain biking. To grab the best views of Jedediah Smith Wilderness and the Grand Teton sightseers and hikers can head up the lift. The resort plans to add a summer campground at the base. This campground will launch new stay and play vacation packages with 10 “” 15 spots.

In summer the Nordic Centre converts to cross-country biking trails and Targhee”s mountain biking, which is lift accessed, features downhill trails. Also available is a small bike skills park. The primary dates for the Downhill MTB Race Series have been scheduled for July 24, August 7-8 and September 11-12. Remember to mark your calendar for August 21st when the Pierre”s Hole MTB ultra Race with both 50 mile and 100 mile divisions will take place.

The summer scene will be dominated with the famous music festivals and from mid-April tickets will be on sale for the 6th Annual Targhee Festival that takes place July 16-18. If you sign up online you stand a chance of being the Grand Prize Winner. The prize is festival tickets and lodging for the weekend and follow-up prizes will give 99 winners the chance to get discounted weekend festival tickets. Sales open from mid-May for the 23rd Annual Targhee Bluegrass Festival. The event takes place from 13-15 August and the bands that will feature will be announced at a later date.
