Halkidiki’s Split Personality

0

Halkidiki is situated in northern Greece and is possibly unlike any other resort you will have ever come across. The region has three ‘finger-like’ peninsulas that extend into the Aegean Sea, three peninsulas that have very different personalities. The calm waters, inner natural beauty and contrast of vast sandy beaches and small secluded coves have kept tourists coming back here year after year.

Halkidiki holidays are usually taken in the western of the three fingers; Kassandra. This is definitely the touristiest of the peninsulas with wonderful beaches and plenty of water sports.

The middle peninsula is Sithonia and is still naturally beautiful and much less developed than Kassandra. Fragrant pine trees and succulent olive groves cover the land here making it look healthy, fertile and green.

Beaches here are vast and sandy interspersed with small sandy coves and craggy inlets. Sithonia is the perfect choice for nature lovers on Halkidiki holidays with its wonderful relaxing atmosphere, stunning scenery and fantastic hiking trails.

Finally, the eastern peninsula, Mount Athos is perhaps the most mystical part of the whole of Greece. This area is the only place in Greece whose inhabitants’ only purpose is to offer prayer and dedication to God. It is divided into twenty monastic states, and is self governed. Each state has its own monastery and Superior who will remain in charge for the rest of their lives. Although land-linked it can only be reached by boat, visitors are limited and must obtain a visa in advance and females are totally forbidden from setting foot here. A boat trip around the peninsula will give you an insight into the mystical, magical life that goes on in this part of the world.

Halkidiki holidays are perfect for families seeking fun in the sun with some wonderful beaches, captivating scenery and a stunning natural beauty. There is a wonderful water park at Thessaloniki which will keep the whole family entertained all day, there is a pool and slides for the youngsters and thrill and spills that will challenge even the most hard to please of teenagers.

The ideal time of year to take Halkidiki holidays is May to October as the winters can get quite cool and damp. Temperatures often hit 30C during July and August and some people can find this time a little too hot.

If you are looking for
cheap Halkidiki holidays
then early or late season would be the best time to look as the resort is a bit quieter and the weather pleasantly hot.
