They should have hiking maps of the area and I know there are some nice easy trails because I´ve visited the place before. It is a Spa (hence the "Bad" in the name) and has a bunch of Rehab facilities, mainly for heart patients (as you might have already noticed ;-)) so there are some easier trails, mainly through the wooded areas where your 6-year-old is bound to discover exciting stuff every couple of feet or so.. lol. Could you provide the name of a bigger nearby city, or at least the name of the state you are in? I've done some hiking around Tripstadt, which isn't too far from K-Town (Kaiserslautern). I've also done some hiking in the Schwarzwald (Black Forest), not too far from Pforzheim. Well, I think in any case you are going to have to drive a bit. Supposedly, the Lahn River Valley (which is in Hesse) is a beautiful area to hike. The 44km stretch between the towns of Weilburg and Limburg is mentioned as having nice views of the river and pretty little towns and hiking, of course.
