Over Night Hiking Trip Gear/ideas?
I understand I’ll have to carry whatever I want or need in with me, being water, a tent, and food. But I’ve never done an overnight hike before, so I don’t know what kind of pack I need to carry, or what kind of food to carry in. I’m splitting the load between two people, but I want to make it as light as possible. Any ideas or suggestions?

After being a Boy Scout for many years and a leader for many more. I would suggest that if you have never gone on a over night hike make it a short one say a mile or so from your parking spot. That way if you did forget some thing you could always walk back.
I know this may not be what you are looking for in a hike but it still can be fun. Then next time go for a longer one as you will have a better grasp on what you think you should carry.
Another Idea is to find a place to camp go on a nice long hike and return to your camping or parking spot. Carry some food and drink and the toiletries that you may need.
All in all hiking is a very fun sport and can be very rewarding.
Have fun and be careful but the main thing to bring is enough water.
Don’t forget to bring a sleeping bag and maybe a pad like a yoga mat to put underneath it to keep you somewhat off the ground. Bring lots of granola or granola bars, GORP (raisins, peanuts, chocolate chips mixed), and some apples for energy. Also make sure you have flashlight or a lantern. I’d say it’d be easiest to bring a bigger pack to keep this all in, and try to distribute it evenly. Overnight camping is fun, but it’s not a light job. Have fun!
Muesli bars are great. take a hiking bag with a lot of pockets, they come in handy.
