What Is A Good Hiking/camping Magazine?

6

I want a magazine that has product reviews/previews about hiking and camping gear. I have just recently started overnight hikes and backcountry camping, instead of my usual day hikes. I usually get all my information now from my local hiking store. I would like to know what are the best brands for certain products, what is the best for my money, what I’ll need on the long trips, what brands/items to avoid. The next time I go to the store I’ll ask the guys there what is a good one, but I thought I would get your opinions too. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I’m currently subscribed to Backpacker, and also Adventure. These magazines aren’t always full of product reviews and so forth, but in every addition they usually review some sort of backpacking/hiking equipment. They also have tips for all levels of hikers, and great locations you may some day want to visit. These two are interesting magazines that deal with the great out doors, though they might not be what your looking for if you’re only wanting pure product reviews.

Backpacking Light offers a subscription print magazine, free website and members only website content including hundreds of detailed reviews of all the latest backpacking products that could in any way be termed lightweight without all the hype and advertising of their rivals. You can even become a reviewer and gear tester with a few requirements. There’s plenty here for free even if you don’t buy, including a message boards full of experts. They also sell difficult to find gear. http://www.backpackinglight.com/cgi-bin/…
