What Is Considered “cross Country Hiking?”?

1

I am trying to calculate my calories burned, and I’ve seen a few different descriptions of hiking. I don’t know if I am “hiking with 0-9 lbs” or cross country hiking. I just go up and down moderate hills and sometimes climb rocks (not super challenging though -i mean i don’t wear gear). Looking forward to everyone’s interpretation!

When I use the phrase “Cross-Country Hiking”, I use it to mean hiking where there is no established trail, generally just “ducks” (trail markers made of 3 stacked rocks) or just a compass bearing. Normally this involves a fair amount of scrambling over debris, backtracking when you get to very large barriers, and wading through streams/small ponds.
However, if you’re reading this term from either a pedometer or a fitness trainer, they may mean hiking along a long distance without weight, or possibly hiking up and down on trails, rather than hiking around town/hiking on pavement.
